Sales and Marketing Webinar

On Thursday, August 12th, 2010, at 2pm EDT, the Marketing and Sales Specific Interest Group (MSSIG) will be hosting a one hour webinar titled: “Winning Profitable “Solutions-Oriented” Business through Effective Capture Management”. The focus of this webinar is to explain how our members can use their PM skills to help their companies manage the process of winning new business. The presenter is Mr. Gary Rupp, BS, MBA, PMP; President of CommandResults, LLC., a firm that specializes in providing business development and capture management services to commercial business firms that are seeking to find, bid and win solutions-oriented business with commercial and government agencies. PMI members interested in understanding the processes and management practices associated with winning solutions-oriented business, both commercial and federal, will have interest in this information.

The presentation will discuss the differences between business development and capture; how each function has a different business focus; and, how they are integrated through a five-step process. Mr. Rupp will discuss how each instance of a business development and capture activity exhibit the characteristics of a project (e.g. temporary, unique, progressive elaboration, with specific deliverables/ objectives), must be managed within the traditional project constraints (scope, schedule, budget, quality & risks), and can be managed within the conventional project management process groups, as described in the PMBOK.   Most importantly, Mr. Rupp will make the case that project planning, including risk management, during the business development and capture phases of winning the business, are critical to the future profitable and successful delivery of awarded business.

It is real simple to join the webinar, participate, and learn.  On August 12th, simply return to this site, click on the link below, sign in as guest and enjoy!

Spotlight My Community

The transformation has begun!  All PMI Specific Interest Groups and Colleges are changing into PMI Virtual Communities. The Marketing & Sales SIG has now completed 3 of the 13 steps toward the goal of being a PMI Virtual Community by the end of 2010.

Our board’s vice-chair of finance, Karen Wang, is working with PMI to manage this project and has provided a basic Q+A, and will be updating us as the transformation progresses.
